Antenatal care, imaging, specialist obstetrics, delivery, theatre and newborn care — run as one pathway on one record. If your baby needs more than we can give on this site, the escalation to Limi Children's Hospital is already arranged.
Register as soon as you know
The single most useful thing you can do is come in early. Booking in the first trimester gives us time to find and manage the things that are easy to treat early and hard to treat late — anaemia, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, infections, a baby growing more slowly than expected.
You register for every pregnancy, including your second, third or fifth. Mothers who have done this before often assume antenatal care is a formality. It isn't. Every pregnancy carries its own risks, and a previous straightforward birth does not predict the next one.
What antenatal care at Limi actually covers
Across a minimum of eight contacts, the team will:
- Check your health and your baby's growth at each visit — blood pressure, weight, urine, fundal height, fetal heart rate.
- Run the booking bloods and screening, and treat what they find.
- Scan you, including 3D/4D ultrasound where it is clinically useful.
- Talk through your options for labour and birth, and write a plan you have actually agreed to.
- Give you fact-based guidance on nutrition, medication, exercise and what to avoid.
- Answer the questions you were told were silly. They are not.
Free antenatal classes run alongside your clinical visits, online and in person, and partners are welcome. Most of what frightens people about birth is unfamiliarity, and that is fixable.
When something goes wrong
Some pregnancies develop complications — hypertension, diabetes, bleeding, preterm labour, a baby in the wrong position. Because your antenatal care, your scans, your theatre and your newborn care are all in one hospital on one record, escalation does not mean starting again somewhere else with a plastic bag of notes.
If you are pregnant and bleeding heavily, have severe abdominal pain, a severe headache with visual disturbance, or your baby has stopped moving — do not wait for your next appointment.

Gynaecology, whether or not you are pregnant

Questions people actually ask
How early should I book?
As soon as you have a positive test. Early booking is what makes the rest of the pathway work — there is no advantage to waiting, and a real cost to it.
How much does antenatal care cost?
Cost depends on your package and whether you are covered by an HMO. Ask for the written schedule before you register — you should know the figure before you commit, not after.Ask us on WhatsApp
Do you accept my HMO?
Good HMOs and primary NHIS are accepted. Because plans differ in what they cover for maternity specifically, call and have us confirm your plan before your first visit rather than after your first bill.
Can my husband or my mother come with me?
Yes. Antenatal classes are explicitly open to partners, and we would rather the person supporting you understood what is happening than guessed at it.
What if my baby needs intensive care?
Newborn escalation runs to Limi Children's Hospital inside the same group — same records, same people talking to each other. You are not handed a referral letter and left to find your own way.
I had a caesarean last time. Does that change things?
It changes the conversation. You are as welcome either way. Bring whatever records you have from the previous birth to your booking visit, they matter more than anything else you can bring.

Nobody hands you back to the street between stages. This is what the year looks like from the inside.
Register
Booking visit, history, examination, booking bloods and your first scan. We agree a schedule with you and put it in writing.
Routine antenatal contacts
A minimum of eight visits across the pregnancy, more if your pregnancy needs them. Each one checks you and the baby and adjusts the plan.
Imaging and screening
Ultrasound including 3D/4D where clinically useful, plus the screening that catches hypertension, diabetes and growth problems while they are still manageable.
Classes and preparation
Free antenatal classes, birth options, breastfeeding, newborn care. Partners welcome and encouraged.
Birth plan
A written plan you have agreed to, covering what happens normally and what happens if it doesn't — including theatre, if it comes to that.
Delivery
Obstetric cover, theatre and blood available around the clock, every day of the year. Newborn escalation to Limi Children's Hospital is arranged in advance, not negotiated on the night.
After
Postnatal review for you, newborn checks and immunisation for your baby, and a route back into family medicine and paediatrics without starting a new file.
