The operation is the short part.

What decides how an operation goes is mostly what happens around it: whether you were properly assessed, whether the anaesthetist saw you beforehand, whether somebody was watching you the night after, and whether anyone followed up when you went home. All of that is arranged here as one thing.

What we operate on

  • General surgery: hernias, gallbladder, appendix, lumps, abscesses, thyroid.
  • Orthopaedics and trauma: fractures, joints, sports injuries, back and neck pain.
  • Urology: prostate, stones, and the urinary problems men put off for years.
  • Ear, nose and throat: tonsils, adenoids, sinuses, grommets, and the clinic that goes with them.
  • Gynaecological surgery, including emergency operating. See women's health.
  • Paediatric surgery, with escalation to Limi Children's Hospital where a child needs intensive care.
  • Plastic and reconstructive surgery, and aesthetic surgery done in a theatre.

Cardiac and vascular surgery is done at CardioCare inside the same group, on the same record. You are walked across rather than sent away with a letter.

Day case or a night in?

Plenty of operations no longer need a bed. Hernia repairs, many gynaecological and ENT procedures, and most minor work are done as day cases: you come in the morning, you go home the same evening with somebody responsible collecting you.

You are told which of the two yours is at the point of consent, not on the day. That matters because it changes who needs to take time off work, what it costs, and what you need to arrange at home.

Aesthetic surgery, plainly

Breast surgery, liposuction and body contouring are done here in a hospital theatre with anaesthetic cover and the ability to manage a complication. That is not how all of it is done in Abuja, and it is the question worth asking wherever you go: who gives the anaesthetic, where does it happen, and what is the plan if something goes wrong at two in the morning.

What it costs, and what is not in the estimate

Surgical costs depend on the procedure, the theatre time, the implants or prostheses involved, and how long you stay. You get a written estimate before you consent, and you are told what is not included in it.Ask us on WhatsApp

Do not wait for a clinic appointment

  • A lump in the groin or abdomen that has become hard, painful or impossible to push back
  • Severe abdominal pain with vomiting, fever, or a stomach too tender to touch
  • A wound that is spreading redness, discharging, or opening up after surgery
  • Inability to pass urine at all
  • A limb that is cold, white, numb or grossly deformed after an injury

Questions people ask before consenting

Who actually performs the operation?

A consultant surgeon in the relevant specialty, with an anaesthetist present for anything under general anaesthetic. You meet both before the day.

Can I get a second opinion first?

Yes, and you should for anything major. Take your results with you. A surgeon who discourages a second opinion is telling you something.

How long before I am back at work?

It varies from two days for a small day case to several weeks for major abdominal or orthopaedic work. Ask for the number at consent so you can plan leave properly.

What if I have diabetes or high blood pressure?

They need to be controlled before an elective operation, which is part of the pre-assessment. Bring every medicine you take, including herbal preparations, because several affect bleeding and anaesthesia.

Does my HMO cover surgery?

Many plans do, usually with an authorisation code obtained in advance. Confirm your specific plan with us before treatment.
