Men's health.
Nigerian men come to hospital late. Not because they do not care, but because there is always something more urgent, and because some of these questions are hard to say out loud. This clinic exists to make the first visit easy — nobody will laugh, nobody will tell your wife, and most of what you are worried about is treatable.
What the clinic handles
- Prostate: enlargement, urinary symptoms, PSA testing and what the result actually means, and referral for anything suspicious.
- Urology: weak stream, getting up at night, burning, blood in urine, stones, hernia, foreskin problems, circumcision.
- Erectile dysfunction: which is a medical symptom, frequently the first warning sign of diabetes or heart disease, and very often fixable.
- Fertility: semen analysis, hormone testing, and treatment. Roughly half of fertility difficulty involves the man, and testing him is quicker, cheaper and less invasive than testing her.
- Blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and weight: the four that quietly do the damage.
- Testicular lumps: examined the same week, always.
- Alcohol, smoking and stress: without a lecture.
- Sleep: heavy snoring with daytime exhaustion is a medical problem, not a personality trait.
Reasons to book, even if you feel fine
- You are getting up more than once a night to pass urine.
- Your stream is weaker than it was, or you strain, dribble, or feel you have not finished.
- There is blood in your urine or semen — even once, even painless.
- You have found a lump, swelling or hardness in a testicle.
- Erections have changed over the last months.
- You and your partner have been trying to conceive for twelve months.
- You have not had your blood pressure checked in over a year.
- Your father or brother had prostate cancer.
- You snore heavily and are exhausted during the day.
- You are drinking more than you would like to admit.

How the first visit goes
- A conversation. What has changed, how long, what you are actually worried about.
- Blood pressure, weight, waist, and an examination relevant to your symptoms — explained before it happens, and you can ask for a chaperone.
- Tests if they are needed, with the cost told to you first.
- A plan you leave with, in writing, and a date to come back.
Do not wait for an appointment
- Sudden severe pain in a testicle — this can be a twisted testicle and there are only hours to save it
- Completely unable to pass urine, with a painful full bladder
- Chest pain, pressure or tightness — especially on exertion
- Sudden weakness, drooping face or slurred speech
- Heavy visible blood in urine, with clots
- A fever with severe pain passing urine and shivering
The questions men actually ask
Will anyone find out I came?
No. Your record is confidential and is not discussed with your wife, your family or your employer without your permission. If you are on a corporate plan, your employer receives fitness outcomes and aggregate data, never your clinical detail.
Do I have to have a rectal examination?
Not automatically, and never without your consent. It is one way of assessing the prostate alongside a PSA blood test and your symptoms. It takes under a minute, and it is a great deal less unpleasant than the thing it finds early.
Is erectile dysfunction just age?
Usually not. It is commonly the first visible sign of narrowed blood vessels, which means diabetes, high blood pressure or cholesterol. Treating the cause often improves both the erections and the life expectancy. It can also be medication, alcohol, thyroid, hormones or stress, all of which are treatable. Please do not buy something from a chemist and hope.
My wife has been tested and everything is normal. Is it me?
It might be, and finding out takes one sample and a few days. Male factors are involved in around half of couples who struggle to conceive. It is not a verdict on you, most causes have a treatment.
I feel completely fine. Why would I come?
Because high blood pressure, diabetes and early prostate disease all feel like nothing at all. By the time they feel like something, the conversation is very different. One visit a year is the whole ask.
Can I see a male clinician?
Say so when you book and we will do our best to arrange it. It is a reasonable request and we are asked it often.
